(3) Putin may have made minor proposals toward settling the war, such as pressure on the Iranian regime to agree to a ceasefire, or support in removing uranium from Iran.

(2) Putin thinks this is bad for Ukraine in the mid-term, but can see that it takes pressure of Zelensky in the short-term. Zelensky doesn't have to bat away Trump's demands to settle the war and has a minor card to play - using Ukraine's drone expertise as a tool of geopolitical indispensability.

(1) Putin is mostly pleased, slightly nervous. He dislikes the normalisation of taking out state leaders. But he sees Trump as stuck, with US foes benefiting, and US allies seeing Washington as unreliable and even threatening.

You cannot explain why Trump attacked Iran without reference to the interaction of his NPD and ND. That’s the core point.

Time to stop the Trump sane-washing. Iran is a strategically meaningless war. This is Trump- driven by a narcissistic personality disorder, amplified by neuro-diverse traits that heighten impulsivity & fixation on a single idea- chasing a “war president” adrenaline rush without a coherent objective.
