A close-up of a vibrant red flower, identified as a Poppy Anemone (Anemone coronaria), shows deep, velvety red petals radiating outward from the center. At the base of these petals, where they meet the core, there is a striking white ring. The center of the flower is a dense, dark purple or black "button". Surrounding this dark central button are numerous tiny, dark stamens. Tiger beetles are tiny but fierce predators, known for their blazing speed and sharp mandibles.

They chase down ants, spiders, and other insects in open sandy habitats.

In the right half of the image a wall of rock is covered by a carpet of bright green moss, down which run several cascading streams of water. At the base of the wall the moss disappears and is replaced by a dark red film (of what I don't know) covering the rock. On the left side of the image Dynjandi thunders down over bare rock, while in the upper left corner a piece of blue sky peeks over the falls.

The top of Dynjandi, the largest waterfall in the Westfjords of Iceland, August 2025. The carpet of green moss is inches thick, and feels like a soft, dripping-wet bath sponge.
