At the US Open, tennis stars shine under dark sky-friendly outdoor lights
When the court lights flicker on at the U.S. Open, tennis stars shine under illumination designed to cut light pollution.
I visited the US Open this week -- but not for a story about the players. I wrote about the lights!
Had so much fun putting a science-y spin on a major sporting event and writing about efforts to make outdoor sports lighting better for dark skies. @apnews.com

Live updates: Trump deflects questioning on Epstein files, revives old grievances instead
President Donald Trump deflected questions over Jeffrey Epstein's files, choosing instead to target his political enemies and repeat falsehoods and longtime grievances.
Nearly 150 National Science Foundation employees signed a letter Tuesday expressing concern over job losses and grant terminations.
They say these and other actions are part of a "systemic dismantling of a world-renowned scientific agency."
