I asked a single question in an email which caused the investigation, and subsequent shutting down, of an illegal, multi-million dollar, degree-selling ring which was believed to be funding terrorism in southeast Asia.

There were many amazing thing in Durham and some important case studies for the book, but one of my favourite finds was this 13th C little guy in his hat...

When you take into account the many, many people aged between 30 and 60+ who work on fixed hours contracts at minimum wage, and need Universal Credit top up to survive, who don't earn enough to pay tax... and will rely solely on State Pension, the system is not fit for purpose.

Egyptian prince Thutmose was entombed with his companion cat Ta-Miu (aka β€œlittle mewer”). Here’s the cat’s sarcophagus ~ the inscription says β€œI myself am placed among the imperishable ones that are in the Sky / For I am Ta-Miu, the Triumphant” (1,500 BC)

Fun fact. When Emma of Normandy arrived in England to marry Aethelred II in 1002 her name was considered too foreign. It was therefore changed to the much more normal Aelfgifu.

Strangely, Aelfgifu as a baby name seems to have completely died out #aelfgifu #emmaofnormandy

There were so many fabulous characters about at that time πŸ˜†like that old guy riding around in his 1950s American cabriolet, roof down, and with a massive Great Dane in the passenger seat. It was a great time to live there.

About 8.30 am one morning, walking my daughter to school in the 80's down Chalcot Road, NW1, and an old Jaguar pulled up at the kerb opposite, and Chris Evans and Paul Gasgoigne got out, dressed in silk dressing gowns, laughing like maniacs, and ran into one of the houses.

Same. I was fairly young but still remember lying in a dark room for what felt like weeks (probably not) with the doctor visiting regularly, as I had what they called at the time "a collapsed lung" because of it. It was grim.

The Nevers - Shockdog VFX breakdown
YouTube video by befores & afters The Nevers - Shockdog VFX breakdown

I imagine I wasn't the target audience for The Nevers, but I fancied it and binged 5 episodes yesterday, and am currently on episode 7, which includes a fabulous massive dog that should have featured in The Terminator.
I've had to pause it so I could do a little research (you know me by now...)

Metropolitan Police DNA database missing nearly half of officers The databases are in place to prevent officers from accidentally contaminating crime scenes.

I've long campaigned for all serving officers to have their DNA recorded - for crime elimination, accountability & public trust.

I'm disappointed progress has been slow.

I've urged the Met to act with urgency to ensure every officer is included.πŸ‘‡πŸΎ
