World Afro Day Update – Kintore Way Nursery School and Children's Centre

Parents have been coming in this week to style their children’s hair. Children learnt about different hairstyles including twists, braids and plaits. They practised twisting hair and got to further fine tune their skills when twisting some pipe cleaners together.

Role play provides children with opportunities to make connections to their own real-life experiences. When playing with friends, children further develop empathy through cooperating, turn-taking and sharing. A fun way to promote maths as well!

The children have been observing and carrying out science experiments. They’ve experimented with mixing colours whilst painting pictures, when mixing coloured water at the water tray and when kneading different coloured playdough together.

Children listened to and role-played the story of ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. They developed their understanding of size using comparative language such as ‘tiny, small, smaller, big, bigger, biggest.’

The Children are so enthusiastic about the ‘Gingerbread Man’ story particularly when playing with props and puppets. This week, each classroom baked Gingerbread Men.

This term, the children have loved learning about different significant celebrations. Thank you to our families who sent in photographs and talked to us about how they celebrated Diwali (the festival of lights).

The children have been learning about the importance of looking after their teeth by eating healthily and brushing regularly to prevent tooth decay. As well as reading information books and stories about going to the dentist, they have also practiced cleaning their teeth.
