yes I do understand the shortcut usage, but I suspect a majority of people imagine that the model is somehow capable of understanding what a role is, what it entails, and then provide a response by embodying that persona, which likely makes them take the response a lot more seriously

do they think that this will somehow unlock a secret PhD in sociology mode and the model is suddenly capable of more things? Or that it will understand what an economic sociologist is, and role-play as such, and that somehow large-scale role-playing approximates the real thing

when people prompt an LLM with stuff like "You are an economic sociologist...", what exactly they think they are doing. I am very confused
