Using code for experiments and stimuli is a great visual way to learn.

I learned the majority of python from experiment design.

Regarding newer mac models, PsychoPy with PTB 3.0.19 does run fine on ARM-based macs in Rosetta mode and so far PTB has been the main limiting factor preventing us switch. But again, it would mean requiring users to pay the license fee which I think most will be looking to avoid

16.04.2025 12:51 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

PsychoPy uses PTB as an option for keyboard input and audio in/output. No other part of PTB is code is used
For now we'll continue to ship PTB 3.0.19 ("Last free lunch") within PsychoPy Standalone. We'll be looking at 3.0.20 as an option for users with a PTB license

Pavlovia The place for the wide community of researchers in the behavioural sciences to run, share, and explore experiments online

PsychoPy includes Stroop built-in and Eriksen flanker tasks are readily available. You can either get students to install the PsychoPy app to build/edit tasks themselves, or you could just point to online versions of tasks on pavlovia.org if you just want them to *run* the study

It turns out that
- installing bash on windows, and getting GH Actions to recognise it, was hard
- setting up pwsh on mac/linux is easy

So now I'm embracing powershell and finding that, although it's a weird syntax at first, I'm actually starting to like it!! πŸ˜³πŸ˜‰

Will see if it lasts!

I use private runners and I want my GitHub actions workflows to run the same code on all platforms (rather than write each step multiple times) so I want 1 shell that works with all platforms on my private runners
