It has been a hard weekend, and I hate to ask for help, but I don't know what else to do to save our baby. Yesterday at about 1 in the afternoon, my husband and I went out on the back porch to find Waffle, who we affectionately call Mr. Baby, had been badly injured. His jaw was broken, his tongue was split in two, and he was in a lot of pain. We're not certain if a car clipped him or if someone with ill intentions hurt him, as he only has head trauma, but he is hurt badly. I rushed him to the emergency vet as he gasped for air the whole 20-minute car ride. They immediately put him on oxygen, pain meds, and an IV. X-rays have revealed that his upper and lower jaw have multiple fractures, his nose is broken, and his tongue is split. They have kept him at the hospital overnight, and I will pick him up tomorrow and have to drive to Knoxville for surgery on his jaw. He'll have to be fed through a feeding tube for at least a month, but he is expected to live a mostly normal life after healing. But the big obstacle is the cost. His stay at the animal hospital is nearly $3,000, and his surgery in Knoxville is estimated at around $8,000. Needless to say, I don't even have savings, much less over 10k, but we're not giving up on him. He is the little light in our life, and I can't let finances end his life prematurely when he can make a full recovery. I do have CareCredit, and we're utilizing that as much as possible, but I also have two root canals and 3 wisdom teeth coming out next month with no dental insurance. If I have to, I can delay the wisdom teeth, but the root canal has to happen, as I currently have a broken and exposed molar. We're just going through a lot right now, and again, I hate to ask for help, but sometimes it is needed, whether you want to ask or not. So appreciate anyone who has read all this emotional rambling and anyone who can donate or at least share to help us save him. He is the sweetest, most lovable little boy.
