My son was basically a celebrity trick or treating tonight. He was on cloud 9 from all the attention. Worth the effort!

Your first look at the all-new Affinity
YouTube video by Affinity Your first look at the all-new Affinity

Hmmm. Watching the Affinity big "True Creative Freedom" reveal video. I've long recommended the Affinity tools as solid alts to Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator (ipad apps in particular are great).

Basically, it's all rolled into 1 app. Now free, but with deep integration with Canva (for AI).

Looks like they’re aware of it and trying to get it back up again from the status message on the website.

Facebook notification saying "Happy birthday to..." without saying who

I guess corporate found that engagement metrics increase if you don't mention whose birthday it is, because now there's an opportunity to catch you scrolling in the app

I'm so tired of the mundane hostility of the attention economy

AI in education is the answer to a critical question: how do we provide bullshit education that will prepare students for the bullshit jobs they will do when they graduate?

The absence of content like Open Brush and limited availability of controllers really does give Mirage Solo DΓ©jΓ  vu vibes.

Is there another Android XR headset coming that this system is a developer kit to prepare ahead of?

How can we get more headsets to devs?

A few quick thoughts on Galaxy XR before we lent our headset to @ianhamilton.net for the weekend (since it’s silly Samsung didn’t provide UploadVR with a review unit and the one they ordered at their own expense won’t come for weeks).

A fun (β€œfun”) new thing we need to address is the time wasted correcting the errors of people who arrive at a conversation having only read the AI summary of a document.

β€œWith physical things, it's more like a memory of what shaped you, what you’ve been through”. An interesting look at Winston Chong and his love for collecting analogue media in Singapore. Seeing some of the items like the phone cards immediately brought me way back to when I was little. Good times.

The interesting part of Tron for me was the fact that the users had avatars for their programs that looked like them in the computer world and did the work of that program. Years later, you’ve trolls, lurkers, chat rooms, scammers, social media, influencers and a wealth of stuff to draw on.

I’m looking forward to the day when an LLM, out of sheer frustration, tells a "vibes coder" that "the code works on my machine" and that it’s a skill problem. That day, be afraid, very afraid, of the machines 😳

Oh yes those were gold! I remember getting a copy of Blade Runner just because it came with a special 2 disc set which had some special features. I was probably too young and out of my depth to fully understand the technical stuff discussed on those special features, but those were cool.

The only times I ended up rewatching a movie these days was because I either forgot to log that I watched it before or I genuinely forgot I had watched it already. But yes, I definitely also went through the phase of rewatching DVDs, VCDs and a couple of taped programmes on VHS way back.

Like every business, Panic has a curated, themed playlist that plays in our lobby, emanating office-parkily from a weird rock speaker.

The vibe goal? 80's-corporate, EPCOT center, inspirational slideshow of Apple II quarterly results, slight unease/discomfort, and personal computer optimism.
