After a few years of teaching undergrad composition students, I have noticed they tend to find the idea of studying a score intimidating and confusing.
So I wrote a short essay, a kind of personal "how to", about studying a score from the perspective of a composer.
For Bernard Rands. This album of his orchestral music was an obsession of mine during my undergrad. Rest in Peace.
