Just don’t think you can disconnect the government taking an increasingly hostile rhetorical line to migrants this week with that horrific attack on the IPAS centre in Drogheda. If you tell these people they have a point, they will escalate their violence.

You cannot appease the far right on migration. You cannot appease the far right on fucking anything. You have to oppose them and stamp them the fuck out.

Strongest condemnation from a local politician so far coming from Labour's Ged Nash - underlining how close we may have been to having several lives lost in Drogheda overnight as a result of this attack.

This is the consequence of pandering to the far right - they feel untouchable. People could have died. They could literally have murdered people.

Setting fire to a building when people, children, are inside should be investigated like it's an attempted murder because that's what it fucking is.

I 100% endorse this message. The spoiled votes are a 3rd or 4th order story in this election and disproportionate attention and airtime is a measure of the level of editorial discomfort with talking about Connolly’s success and FF/FG failure.

Catherine Connolly got more votes than any other president in history - any pol corr or commentator trying to convince you that the story is actually the spoiled votes is showing you their whole arse, and should be treated accordingly.

But push the Steen grievance campaign, and there's a spoiled vote bounce.

I'm actually sort of excited to see all the different ways in which the people who are paid enormous money to analyse the landscape of Irish politics are about to get this all wrong.

The one conclusion they will assiduously avoid, of course, is that Catherine Connolly just won this election because a majority of voters want her to be the president, and that they want her to be the president because of her politics.

The last presidential election the press lost their minds over Peter Casey’s vote and tried to ignore the size of MDH’s victory. The same will happen today. But the truth is - CC’s victory is even larger than MDH’s.

Dunno if sharing photos of the violent threats and hatred on spoiled votes and thereby giving those gowls the audience and coverage they want their otherwise mainly unseen messages to get is great tbh

Connolly's younger volunteers and organisers are fantastic and deserve huge credit.

This spoiled vote thing is a Big Flashing Danger sign in the week of racist riots in Ireland - we're stumbling towards a crisis with no leadership or will to tackle misinformation, criminality, intimidation.

In July, when Catherine Connolly was the only confirmed candidate, the political media regularly excluded her from their polling. But I’m sure they’ll reflect on their own major failings and lack of insight into the election campaigns and the public’s views. Or not.

Hearing Connolly supporters were described as “MAGA like” on RTE. So we’re already at the ‘media blaming the voters for being too stupid to vote as they were told’ phase.

It’s all long over and done with in the first 25 minutes of counting.
