Retired referee amongst other things. All views are personal. Lifelong Arsenal and Queen of the South Supporter (and that's a long time). Respectful engagement and good humour appreciated.

13.11.2025 21:45 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Agreed, Miguel. It's been a while.
13.11.2025 21:43 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Now, you would think at the age of 40, Ronaldo might actually learn that you can't commit an act of violent conduct and not expect a red card.
His behaviour towards the crowd and the Irish manager displayed an arrogance and lack of class one comes to expect from him.
Not a good example for kids.
I knew well you were deploying sarcastic tactics - just couldn't resist joining, while making a side reference to another club with a multi million pound player currently on their bench.
All in good humour and the best possible taste. ๐
That's not a great pinpoint Jon. Vinicius Jnr seems to have a poor work ethic and attitude.
You could end up with a player you have spent a couple of hundred million on for him to only be on your bench....๐
Webb backs officials over disallowed Liverpool goal - www.bbc.com/sport/footba...
H. Webb simply cannot help himself. So, this week, he backs his officials because the offside call "wasn't clearly and obviously wrong".
Sir, can you explain why it took the AR about 30 seconds to raise his flag?
I do indeed. Seems that basic governance principles no longer apply, Glenn.
I'm not saying they are biased, but risk of subconscious bias exists & it isn't reasonable to expose refs to the potential for a jaundiced public perception, particularly as their general performance is still lacking.
The search process is going live today, I believe.
10.11.2025 12:40 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Very balanced there, Nick.
10.11.2025 12:37 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0What I still don't understand is why Michael Oliver is let anywhere near a match involving Man City. (Ref or VAR) - I believe he was VAR yesterday.
I know it has changed now, but he previously takes UAE work & no one thinks that there might be a perception of a conflict of interest? Silly.
I caught the Liverpool โequaliserโ later. If I were running the line, I wouldnโt be flagging for that. It should have stood in my view.
I just canโt watch any games involving City.
I just have an issue with Man City as a club. There is no reason at this stage why a decision cannot be made in relation to the long standing case against them.
The fact the club have used their substantial resources to retain one of the best legal teams in the UK to defend and delay speaks loudly.
You got ahead of meโฆ.
09.11.2025 20:16 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Another thought; based on our karting experience - I have sometimes observed stewards say words to the effect of โin normal circumstances, the incident only merits a 5 second penalty, but because it caused a competitor to crash out, the stewards have to disqualifyโ
A penalty influenced by outcome.
True. I suppose the context of a Ferrari being eliminated from the race as a result of the incident will colour the situation for the stewards.
The problem we both have is we do not have access to all the data the stewards have.
All that said Rob, we personally have been the victims of a dodgy stewards penalty in the past in karting so yes, sometimes it feels like they make it up as they go alongโฆ.
09.11.2025 20:01 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I can see the argument alright, but I still think Kimi is marginally ahead of Piastri and I suppose the Stewards have access to the telemetry to know?
Three into one normally doesnโt go at that corner; Oscar needed to make progress and took a big chance going inside in that circumstance.
Btw, there is no way penalty points should be put on his license - that is harsh and unnecessary
09.11.2025 19:49 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Rob, seems to me the penalty was based on the rule book currently in force. Another way to look at it is that Oscar took a risk, he went to the inside in a triple sandwich and it wasnโt his corner per the current rules; he gambled and lost.
My Rotax driving son would tend to agree with you though.
That was an excellent Brazilian Grand Prix.
09.11.2025 18:41 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Not sure that is entirely fair, Ray. Liverpool managed to keep their best players fit last year and that meant that they could be stable for sure. But they played incredibly well under Slot and deserved the title in the end.
I do think their summer recruitment unbalanced them & they lost TAA.
You have to hand it to Max Verstappen. He is some pilot.
09.11.2025 18:09 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The Formula 1 is a better watch, Louiseโฆ.
09.11.2025 18:04 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Still heavily reliant on the said robot.
09.11.2025 18:02 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I can't watch any games involving Man City.
It's not good for my blood pressure.
You've hit the nail on the head there.
09.11.2025 17:46 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Piastri rightly gets a 10 second penalty
09.11.2025 17:28 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Total nightmare for Ferrari
09.11.2025 17:27 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Can someone please give Haaland a little kick? Just enough of a one to give him three months off work.
He deserves a mid season rest as he is carrying that entire team. ๐
I've just seen some of the officiating at the Arsenal Women's match -v- Chelsea.
Oh dear.
A case for VAR? If it brings the same chaos as it does in the men's game, then no.
A case for appointing officials with more experience to what are the top matches in the division? Perhaps.
