I once spent a month living with my mother in Texas to help her out. Every morning I’d slip out early before the summer heat to run on the country roads. Tommy’s studio version of this song was on my playlist and it played every day. Thank you for this most glorious memory. Crying happy tears.

Every year on Memorial Day, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring.

They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died.

France also gave us this land as American soil.

I so get this.
