A lovely light yellow and brown bird is perched vegetation in a hay meadow. The bird is buffy brown on top with some dark brown streaks on the back and flanks. The bird has a dark crown with a light central stripe, a light eyebrow, and a dark line behind the eye. The underbelly is a wonderful shade of light yellow.

A small songbird sits on a branch, taking a break from foraging to burst into song. The bird has a bold black necklace, a prominent black mask, bluish gray forehead and crown, and a large white wing patch. The bird’s facial pattern is complex with a white under eye arc and a white swoosh starting at the eye and extending back. He also has distinctive black streaking radiating down the chest from his black neck band. The throat and belly are yellow. The upper parts of the bird are gray and black.

A small bird sits on a branch covered with lichen, in woods bordering a river in the Adirondacks. The bird has a blue-gray back. The throat is yellow; and the belly is white with no streaking. The bird sports a broken eye ring, often referred to in guide books as eye arcs or eye crescents. This bird is also obligingly demonstrating another distinctive feature of this species: its bi-colored bill, which sets it apart from most other warblers. The lower mandible is yellow-orange.
