夏の夕暮れ、柔らかな橙色と紫が混じる空の下、ひとりの少女が田舎道を自転車で進んでいます。背中には赤いリュックを背負い、肩まで伸びる髪を麦わら帽子が覆っています。帽子には小さな猫の耳のような飾りがついていて、彼女の後ろ姿にどこか遊び心を感じさせます。 道の両脇には黄色い野花やクローバーが咲き乱れ、柵や電柱が点々と並んでいます。遠くには濃い緑の森と、紫がかった山々の稜線が広がり、その背後に入道雲が大きく立ち上がり、夕陽に染められて金色や桃色に輝いています。 少女のペダルをこぐ音と、夏の草原を渡る風の匂いが重なり合い、時間が少しずつゆっくりと流れていくようです。小さな村の家々が遠くに見え、帰り道なのか、それともどこかへ向かう途中なのか、その後ろ姿は物語の始まりを思わせます。 ――夏の終わりに差しかかる夕暮れ、澄んだ空気の中で、自転車をこぐ少女の姿は、ひときわ鮮やかに景色の中へと溶け込んでいます。
