In Japanese, we use special words to count things. These are native Japanese numbers.
They are often used to count general items (like apples, toys, etc.).
This way of counting is used up to 10.
This is shūmai (a kind of steamed dumpling).
There are three shūmai.
In Japanese, we can say 「3こ」(san-ko).
But there is another way to say it.

Long ago, "青 (ao) 🔵" meant both blue and green in Japanese. Even today, green things like 🍏 青りんご (green apple) and 🥬 青菜 (green leafy vegetables) use "青."
So, Japan kept this tradition and still calls it "青信号" instead of "緑信号 (midori shingō) 🟢." 😊
あおしんごう
青信号
ao shingō
green light
In Japan, the green light is called "青信号 (ao shingō) 🟦", meaning "blue light" instead of "green light."
❓ Why?

Katakana is hard to remember, isn’t it?
Let’s start by focusing on reading!
Using an app is a good way to learn, but reading picture books or learning through Pokémon and dinosaur names is also helpful.
My son loved dinosaurs, so he learned katakana by reading dinosaur books.

3️⃣ Summary
✅ "に (ni)" → Destination (goal)
✅ "を (o)" → Moving through something
That’s why we say "山に登る"! 😊
2️⃣ Why not "を (o)"?
"を (o)" is used when moving through something.
✔ 道を歩く → Walking along the road
✔ 川を泳ぐ → Swimming through the river
A mountain is not something you pass through, but a place you reach, so we use "に (ni)".
山に登る
やま に のぼる
yama ni noboru

1️⃣ "に (ni)" shows the destination
The particle "に (ni)" tells us where someone is going. In "山に登る", the mountain is the goal.
✔ 家に帰る → Going home
✔ 学校に行く → Going to school
✔ 駅に着く → Arriving at the station

"Ippai" → Casual speech
Examples:

✖ Ippai no Hana. (❌ Wrong)
🌟 "Onaka ippai" vs. "Onaka takusan"
✔ "Onaka ippai" (✅ Correct) → "I’m full!" 😋
✖ "Onaka takusan" (❌ Wrong)
👉 Why? The stomach is only one, so we cannot use "takusan" (many).
👉 "Ippai" means "full," so it makes sense!
