so they dropship you something for pennies on the dollar and its a piece if crap but the customer service and return experience are so nightmarish and the product cheap enough that people just write it off as a loss and throw it away instead of returning it. so they make a profit anyway

in my mind these websites are deisgned to trick by selling cheap things cheaply and the cheap cheap things are sometimes better quality than expected because your expectations are so low anyway (you get what you pay for) but then you get the sense of security that maybe some other things are good

so by buying the cheaper pair you spend more on boots because you end up buying 10 pairs of $10 boots over 10 years but the $50 ones only once. but the $50 ones are harder to get and you need something now and that’s why being poor is more expensive than being rich 😭

i just have never trusted it as a concept. like that one story about two pairs of boots - one is $50 and one is $10. the $50 pair will last for significantly longer because its a higher quality bit also a higher barrier to entry, but the cheaper pair are more accessible but more likely to break
