I'd love to live in that world, but that isn't reality and has never been reality. Law exists because people will always hurt one another in self-interest. Law exists because even democracy can be tyranny for those in the minority. And law often ends up being the tyranny regardless. People hate.

I don't think that's a better system. Congress is a partisan, political body; the only benefit is the power doesn't rest with a single, partisan agent anymore. But pardons would still be political. That wouldn't change. Justice should be divorced entirely from political agenda, in an ideal world

I'm canceling my subscription to @nytimes.com as of now. They've been slipping for a long while now, but the fact yesterday's protests were not the headline story is just inexcusable. Also their "The Morning" email newsletter today led with... baseball. I'm done.
