Guess it was good I ended my weekly call with hockey(most sports)-loving parents to let them enjoy Q3 & OT. May be able to hear them up the I-4 corridor. Heartbreak for our Canadian friends who pushed the U.S. to the last.

In junior high, we had a summer program in Philosophy & Lit at a local college with a Prof. William Lohman... who assigned us, among other plays, Death of a Salesman.

The contrast in a generation - one vivid memory about reporting for freshman orientation at FSU was being put in a line to get (re)immunized bc they couldnโ€™t interpret my records. Called family doctor in a panic & got it sorted but there was a block on my registration, housing, etc. until we did.

It is very sweet to see at my lunch spot today the local library has a booth set up with books wrapped as Valentines, encouraging people to sign up for a library card and check out a book ๐Ÿ’œ

Yes - just got results back from this version myself. Awkward but a good step, especially for those of us for whom it's harder to find transportation support after anesthesia.

Have caught up with opening ceremonies in Milano Cortina & must say I appreciated how the dance segments in particular were choreographed mainly as they would be in a theater, well done with proper ballet & modern movements, the opening w/ Teatro alla Scalaโ€™s academy of course & choreo w/ Ghali too.

...while also feeling they were genuinely working by looking up "answers," tutorials, etc. elsewhere (online). Unintended consequence (benefit of the doubt) of e-books & Ed Tech broadly, just too many options that drown the self <--> source connection. So we tried to talk about trusting our humanity

Had a great if hard chat with my intro ethics students today about reading. Really don't think there is an ability or motivation issue as much as has been made out in some places. Was surprised there was a kind of lack of trust in the self to work with material directly, to just read on their own...

๐ŸšจCalling all anthropologists who love sport, study sport, play sport, and/or write about sport. Itโ€™s time for a topical interest group focused on sport to bring us together in conversation and collaboration. If youโ€™re interested in forming a TIG, please let me know. It only takes 10 of us to start.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but teachers (ECE- graduate school) are fucking exhausted right now and have to keep teaching during *points to world*. It's rough normally, it's been extra rough for years, and right now it's basically boss levels rough. Don't beat yourself up, fellow educators.

My brother came down from Ohio to take my parents to todayโ€™s outdoor hockey game in Tampa - unusually cold for it. We are pooling the warm weather gear. (I just met them for lunch - will let them enjoy the cold tonight.)

Whew. The poem at 2:20. "...But I believe there are birds. Whose songs of love aren't heard by people who need to care." Clarity.

I had this too - and then had mixed feelings as classmates would teasingly call me Holly Hobbie sometimes. Sweet to see the pic.

Itโ€™s cold, thereโ€™s a baseline stress I canโ€™t shift, but my students were so enthusiastic about reading poems aloud today (Anne Bradstreet!).

Really touched me and the best reminder of simple ways to (re)claim our humanity.
