There’s also the fact that Criterion is one of the labels that streaming companies like Netflix have consistently been willing to work with in order to make home releases for previously streaming only content. Which is also good. It’s good when these things aren’t stuck on streaming forever

Criterion releasing K Pop Demon Hunters is a net benefit for everyone - those who like the movie will get a really good home release of it, those who don’t care about the movie will benefit from Criterion having a certified money maker that they can use to help fund more obscure/niche releases

I don't mean to imply all I want is studio films, just that Animation deserves the same treatment as the rest of the collection. Yes we need stuff like Mad God as much if not more as we need stuff like The Lion King. But what I mean is it needs Numbers. It shouldn't be 10 out of 1800.

Even with that, KPDH is mainstream. As of the over 1800 films that the Criterion has had among it, its littered with major Blockbusters in that pantheon. I see no reason that some mainstream animated films theatrical or otherwise, also deserve that spotlight. But yes, indie films would be excellent.

AKIRA used to be in the Collection, and it was one of the only films that was REMOVED. AKIRA.

This is in no disrespect to KPDH, because it did have a major cultural impact, but there are so many I could list that aren't included. It makes me sad how devalued the medium is compared to live action.

I know "can we license the film" is the ultimate deciding factor in the Criterion Collection; But it is devastating how few animated films they have that are not shorts.
