Tbh: I think everyone should try to make the thing they want or commission once (if necessary, at small scale). And get involved in how stuff is made, and how it works in general.

It takes a lot of misunderstanding and uncertainty out of everything, and replaces it with genuine appreciation.

Reddit comment - Cyber Boi on YouTube spoke to a former BARB employee. He claimed that the company was essentially a cult with Leslie Benzies at the head. Benzies would micromanage everything from art, to coding, to even QA. Development was heavily delayed because an enormous number of decisions (including art assets) had to be personally approved by Benzies before being allowed to proceed, leading to a lot of wasted time. Benzies would often suddenly come up with ideas out of nowhere, demand people implement them, and later on cancel them. Eventually the main priority of everyone in the company became "Keep Leslie happy". People who became Benzies' yes men shot up the ranks while anyone who disagreed with Benzies or even reported bad news, were shunned and eventually let go. Of course BARB responded to this by going "Those people are all disgruntled employees" and later stepped up to trying to discredit Cyber Boi altogether.

So Leslie is the Founder and Mark is the CEO and they both sound like nutjobs.

Screenshot from LinkedIn. The statement from the CEO is very long but the relevant part is that a) they laid people off and b) there's talk of "overwhelming evidence of organized espionage and corporate sabotage affecting Mindseye" (that's the company's game that came out and did very poorly.

It's got to be some real insult to injury to have your CEO lay you off while blaming conspiracies and corporate espionage after ordering monitoring software to be secretly installed on employee PCs.

An upcoming California law requires operating system providers to enforce basic mandatory age verification It's basic, and by the looks of it, near unenforceable.

A new California law says all operating systems, including Linux, need to have some form of ID verification (which they’re calling age verification) at account setup.

This makes absolutely ZERO sense if you have even the most basic understanding of technology

Today I was at job fair, I got to send in my CV to a handful of places. Tomorrow I have an interview & have made progress with my commissions - Friday will be an applying to jobs & art day, on Saturday my bestie is taking me out for a late birthday celebration.

At least I got to keep busy.

PS: No contract had been signed. No artwork was delivered. My artist-compensation model has always been transparent and artists are paid after the campaign. EvulArt was removed before the project started. None of his concepts or ideas will be used. Not now. Not ever.

I don't care how many followers you have.

People are still trapped in their homes in my neighborhood here in Jason's ward, unable to go to work (at jobs which may not even exist anymore), sick with worry over how they’ll pay utilities and remain housed.

It's not over. ICE is still here, and the least we can do is afford families more time.

Had the pleasure of purchasing this print from you back in 2018 at TFNation I believe, and I still hold the Wreckers saga you have written (along with James co-writing) and drawn for the IDW1 era close to my heart, along with Josh's colours complimenting your work.

Prepping some files for print, and I came across this old fave from 2018! It started of as a commission (thanks @yukonshaun.bsky.social!) and then @dcjosh.bsky.social grafted some gorgeous colours onto it, so it became a nice little narrative piece of Verity Carlo's adventures with robots!
