I lived in a homeless shelter 25~years ago, then I volunteered there for a couple years. I met some of the coolest people there. When I felt all alone in the world they taught me to have faith in myself and the world again. I am grateful for knowing every one of them, even the occasional assholes.

Our local food pantry had expired foods and freezer burned meat that was so damaged I couldn't even tell what it was. It was very depressing and dehumanizing.

My kid and I have texture issues with food and neither of us can do beans. We can do bean paste because it's not a taste issue, but I've been sharing the canned beans with family because 6 cans every 2 weeks does nothing for us, unfortunately. I'd much rather get tuna and peanut butter.

Yeah, cash is best when possible. I know some people who donate from their own pantries, though. Whatever people can do to help is a good thing.

Community care will become REALLY important if this happens. Everyone that can should flood food banks with donations. And please don't just donate beans and rice. There's already so much beans and rice. Cash donations go the furthest if you can do it. Help your communities survive this.

I want more people to care that SNAP benefits are being cut off on November 1. 40% of SNAP beneficiaries are children. This is callous and vile.
