EARTHONE was presented at the Agricultural Chemistry Winter School in Bologna on 2 February 2026 during the poster session. The University of Padua team presented the Italian agroforestry pilot and its relevance for land use and soil management.

Soil erosion monitoring has started at the #EARTHONE pilot in Pelion, Greece. On 19 Dec 2025, researchers from the University of Thessaly and ELGO-DIMITRA installed erosion monitoring systems and collected baseline soil samples in apple orchards.

EARTHONE teams from Bremen and Twente met on 20–21 Nov to align work on climate modelling and phenology. The workshop set next steps for WP5, including work on the ICON land component and possible integration of UT phenology outputs.

#EARTHONE gathered input from its workshops to understand what farmers, foresters and authorities need from digital tools for climate-resilient land use. Their feedback now shapes the MSE, Scenario Builder and Information Factory.

EARTHONE research at the Italian pilot site shows how soybeans respond to a mature poplar agroforestry system. Soil sampling, microclimate data and field measurements reveal strong competition near the trees, with the Hiroko variety coping better than M10.

The #EARTHONE pilot in Slovenia studies the shift from grassland to forest, measuring soil organic matter, microbial activity and CO₂/CH₄/N₂O emissions. It builds on 15 years of monitoring to understand how #afforestation shapes soil health and carbon storage.

EARTHONE teams from UTH and ElGO DIMITRA carried out fieldwork on 13 November at two apple farms in Zagora. They seeded Lupinus and Hordeum, tested surface water collection for erosion studies, measured weed biomass and collected fallen leaves for analysis.

In October, #EARTHONE took part in the @re4green.bsky.social Social Lab Workshop at the @unibonn.bsky.social. The event explored urban and precision farming, vertical farming and the bioeconomy. It was an enriching experience that encouraged new perspectives and ideas.

Plants tell an important part of the climate story. #EARTHONE’s vegetation sensors capture continuous images of plant growth and seasonal change, helping improve land and crop management through real-time data.
