It’s so deeply depressing that any attempt to talk about American patriotism immediately leads to talking about the military. Revealing too.

β€œHe Helped Perform Circumcisions

Yes. You read that right. Circumcisions. As in the medical procedure that many baby boys undergo shortly after birth. Medical mission trips consumed much of Tebow’s free time in college. He visited the Philippines, where he was born, and lent a hand at medical clinics where poor communities could get their teeth pulled, their cysts removed or their sons circumcised. And, in true Tebow fashion, he has preached to the hundreds who come for free medical care.

One of the funny reasons was that I was pretty mad we weren’t allowed to watch β€œThe Simpsons” during dinner on Sunday whenever Grandmama was visiting.

A large green Chicago waste bin sits in front of a metal historical plaque for Margaret Donahue Park. Sunlight flares over the top edge of the bin, partially washing out the plaque behind it, while bare trees and a colorful mural are faintly visible in the background.

The bronze plaque titled β€œMargaret Donahue Park.” The text explains that Margaret Donahue (1892–1978) was one of the first women executives in Major League Baseball. She was hired in 1919 by Chicago Cubs president William Veeck as a stenographer and eventually became corporate secretary in 1926 and vice president in 1950. During her 40-year career she introduced innovations such as season tickets, off-site ticket sales, and reduced ticket prices for children. After her retirement in 1958, Illinois governor Phil K. Wrigley issued a proclamation recognizing her as a nationally acknowledged authority on baseball.

Happy International Women’s Day.

Here’s a plaque, honoring a pretty incredible accomplishment by a woman, unceremoniously hidden behind some trash cans:

In 2017 the Chicago White Sox hired designer Todd Radom to create custom ticket designs for each of their home games.

Not sure if they created a poster of that Dick Allen design but that’s a HUGE missed opportunity if they didn’t. 😍

The great @toddradom.bsky.social created the original World Baseball Classic logo, which is still in use today (with a few minor tweaks over the years). Three years ago he joined me on the Baseball By Design podcast to discuss that project.
