A Norwegian senior lecturer in Social Informatics, who focuses on Social Cybersecurity and Digital Preparedness, finds the idea that chatbots are AI hysterically ridiculous. #NAFO member since 2023. https://www.nord.no/om/ansatte/per-arne-godejord

It’s time to start applying Carl Sagan’s Baloney Detection Principles on “AI”

Most people inherit their beliefs. They rarely examine them.

“For now, companies are riding a tsunami wave of AI hype, with insatiable investors pumping stocks to unprecedented heights”. It’s going to be interesting to see how long the “We have AI and soon AGI-fantasy” will last…

Of course it’s interesting. But it’s also completely undocumented by external research. Like most of the media tales about “AI”

"“AGI 2027” seems more and more remote by the day." @garymarcus.bsky.social nails it again!

About AI Agents: "Importantly, agentic tasks often involve multiple steps. In fundamentally unreliable systems like LLMs, that means multiple chances for error."
@garymarcus.bsky.social is spot on - again

Jeg har så vidt begynt testingen av OpenAI sin "Study mode", men resultatet ble som forventet. Det er merkverdig hvor vanskelig det skal være å skjønne at statistiske beregninger av ord blir ikke plutselig over natten glitrende intelligens..

"I think Study Mode will drive incremental signups of ChatGPT Plus, and possibly help in enterprise sales to schools. I don’t see it being a killer app, though."

"The titans of the tech industry say artificial intelligence will soon match the powers of humans’ brains. Are they underestimating us?"

"Artificial intelligence in particular conjures the notion of thinking machines. But no machine can think, and no software is truly intelligent. The phrase alone may be one of the most successful marketing terms of all time."

"No one sells the future more masterfully than the tech industry. According to its proponents, we will all live in the "metaverse," build our financial infrastructure on "web3" and power our lives with "artificial intelligence." Written in 2023 but still true!

"There is no such thing as artificial intelligence, and in fact, I will suggest that the very phrase is an oxymoron. If we understand what “artificial intelligence” is, we’ll be free from its deceptions, free to cultivate true intelligence in ourselves and others"

"Yet this intervention underscores just how untrustworthy this technology remains, which by extension incapacitates its usefulness, suspended in this awkward limbo in which it's both too dumb and too powerful to just let loose." Interesting read by Frank Landymore
