We support the movement of Camogie Players in Ireland for their choice of shorts during matches. Equality in sports means providing comfort as well as safety for all players. Keeping the skort mandatory when “70% of inter-county camogie players find skorts uncomfortable and 83% of players at least want the right to choose” is disregardful and unacceptable. On the European continent, players have long established the choice between skort and short. There has been no issue with it; rather, it would be difficult to explain to locals why women are being forced to wear something they don’t want. Make a change now, so Camogie can be about athleticism, skill and teamwork again.
