A nice part of Earth (in Canada). A flattish (glacially eroded) small island of granite sits on a still lake reflecting a blue sky dotted with clouds. Two people stand at either end, fishing.
Itβs Earth Day, and some of us have spent not just our careers but our whole lives loving + studying the Earth. It is not an easy time. But I hope you take a moment today to look at something beautiful, eat something delicious, squish someone you love, pet a dog, remember the nice parts. Yay Earth.

Two years ago today was one of the most thrilling moments of my life when I captured this sunrise eruption of Guatemala's VolcΓ‘n de Fuego. My drone was much closer than I realized, and the eruption was the largest I saw in my two days up there. I may never again film something as remarkable as this:

I wonder if this inconvenient (for the fossil fuel industry) plot has something to do with it? π€

Santiago crater, Masaya caldera, Nicaragua. On March 2, 2024, the south crater wall collapsed (debris cone lower right) burying the lava lake. The shallow magma degassed through two small vents (right center & lower left).
