The mess that resulted and the detriment to the UK was utterly predictable.
Perhaps Scottish independence (and Irish Unification :) will forge a way back.
It was thoughtlessly done. I'm so sorry for all my UK friends.
And irrespective of where a referendum is done - a politician with integrity would have defined the majority required to make it a definitive result.
And then have a definitive referendum with a clear majority - 60 to 70 percent at least. The original referendum was set up without any consideration of the consequences.
I'm on an Irish European passport so I'm unaffected personally but I was heartbroken to see what happened.
A margin of 51% should have been followed by an education campaign giving people a better understanding of the reality (as I said, it was a self evident disaster for most of us around the world), and considering the younger generation.

You're right. It was a disingenuous process.
It really irked me that people treated as definitive when nearly half the respondents said no.
In Australia we can't make a constitutional change without a clear margin of 75% and across all the states.
And we have compulsory voting.
I should add I have European passport and have been privileged to use it throughout the EU. Who would give up such incredible freedom.

I didn't find it hard with a combination of Linux, Proton Mail, LibreOffice.
What has limited me is Proton Drive not being native to Linux, and when I cancelled my Prime membership the thieving cunts wiped my Kindle and all the books I had licenced.
Simple. I'll NEVER use Kindle again.
