Maybe I'm just trying to be.. too freedomy for artists? When it comes to themes being shown in their art I don't really care for their reason but I would definitely still find it to be insensitive if these serious topic were just for shock

I have seen Phils livestreams except for the last ending! I do wonder what specifically you're referring to as there's a lot of moments and (from what I recall) all of them were executed well

Tldr: Phil is allowed to play the game if he wants to and the creator is allowed to include such topics in their game.

That and:
How far IS too far? What topics are TOO taboo? Does the execusion need to be done in a specific way? Personally I think so but not everyone will agree and each story is different so my recommended way of executing such topics may not work/make the story worse.

Plus... what if the artist has been through such abuse or experienced it through people in their life? What if this game is an attempt for them to work through their struggles? Are we really gonna, essentially, censor them because the topic is "too taboo" or because the execusion sucks?

I think that assumption is ignorant. After all, the game doesn't romantizise or excuses it. The community might do that but that's seperate from the game itself.

I guess that is more subjective. Personally I think Horror can absolutely include other feelings, like disgust, and not just fear, terror, anxiety, dread, etc.

If we're talking about personal works and media one chooses to consume: I agree! Some topics I myself cannot stomach and don't engage with! And someone saying "I don't want to engage in this" is absolutely valid!

My main points are "just because it has such topics doesn't mean you can dictate what other people should/shouldn't play" and "Artists are allowed to explore differen't topics within their work and considering the genre of the game, it makes perfect sense for something like that to show up"

Fair but so are other topics within the game, like abuse (familial to be specific), cannibalism and murder yet those topics aren't being as strongly critized.
Plus, horror game and unless the creator activily endorses/romantizises/fetishises it, I don't see an issue with such topics being included.

*Correction, there's more chapters but the whole game isn't out yet
