no promises buuut I've been thinking of attempting some quick story-scribbles on patreon for macro march while Next Serial is in the slow cooker
throw me some single-word prompts since I haven't seen any of those one-a-day ones floating around
i think there's room for a few, i've already had somebody ask if they could commission a vaela story so that might be in the cards at some point
otherwise if i had unlimited time/budget there's probably a lot of small world-build-y segments that could give the setting a more vibrant tapestry
oh definitely the sudden realization that [spoilers] was fucking [spoilers], that came to me at the absolute last minute, unplanned and it set the tone for the rest of the story's conflict
that + the perspective from the story's antagonist; before that he wasn't going to have as "involved" a role
a bit wary if anything
it's not like familiarized ending changes much for me in the short run: gotta keep coming up with stuff to write, particularly for patreon
and pushing into the new over writing more of the Familiar is more onerous
glad to hear!

there's a lot of little lore inconsistencies im sure
karse at the start isnt quite what he is by the time the story gets going
vaela's golem undergoes a bit of an appearance change im fairly sure (unless i never went into great detail about its appearance at the start)
oh fuck that's a good idea
yea but only because im stealing this
one secret "kyrm is mentally ill" piece of lore i dont think ive ever gotten to reveal is that i have never once reread a single chapter of familiarized (or any work ive ever written actually)
after i've edited and posted it ive never touched it again, the plot just has to exist in my skull
hmm
26.02.2026 16:34 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0it's gotta hatch somehow

that'll be if things continue; the story very much isn't "over" for them, it's just a question of whether we get to see it
but there's a parallel in that the reader now has to do what amori and jun thought they would have to at the end of Trials, and trust the characters will be ok on their own
but one of the strengths of a serial is that you get to dwell
a novel is often constant movement, a (semi-episodic) serial lets you sit with characters and really enjoy them getting fleshed out/interacting in specific ways
so a lot of what manifested & bloated the narrative was pure serendipity
the story was originally going to be much more contained leading up to that end, and maybe there's a world where that's better than its sum (6 years nonstop writing for 1 year of in-universe time is a pretty big gap), so at times i definitely got "lost in the sauce" with new ideas
26.02.2026 16:30 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0
but as I went forward i soon had story beats in my head that i realized i wanted to happen
the big climactic "boss" at the end of it all was something i knew the story would lead up to from very early on, but things like the crown, the deer, even some major plot points were made up on the spot
(1/?) tbh it was very much play-it-by-ear at the start
in stephen king's "on writing" he identifies 2 types of writers: plotters and pantsers, the latter of which write by the seat of their pants and derive enjoyment from "discovering" the story as they go along
that's me
now that it's finished i can also answer any familiarized-related questions
be it production-wise or lore-wise or related to the story
although some answers regarding the latter might necessarily be cagey
yea the story could absolutely keep going sometime down the line but for now these characters and their arcs are all wrapped up
26.02.2026 16:04 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I would like to at some point but that does require me to comb over 152 chapters and ideally edit them for clarity/canon inconsistencies that have cropped up over the years

Here's a bonus picture for the finale, commissioned from @kambing.bsky.social
special thanks to @jaynefolest.bsky.social without which this never could have actually happened
and of course to all of you who read along over the years or just picked it up out of curiosity and plowed through it in more recent times
That's a wrap.
Tiny-human-big-gay-wizard-anthro Isekai serial "Familiarized" brushes up against the year-six mark as it arrives at an ending. For good? For now? We'll see.
Either way you can read all 152 chapters start to end for just 3 bucks on patreon.com/kyrm
