it’s not lost on me that all of this is happening in Minnesota, where the current governor was nearly elected VP. a place our current administration sees as weak because of the progressive policies implemented there

teaching can be really tough some days

and then some days, a student comes out to you and says you’re one of the first people to know and it makes your whole world shift because they trust you enough to tell you that 🥹🥺

and this is why even on the toughest days, i still love teaching

but also the algorithm (does that exist here?) is weird - people i follow are posting and im not seeing any of it unless i go to their page

and i just will not move to instagram, i don’t have the energy to make images for everything (all power to those who do)

i feel like rarely do i see people commenting on drabbles here?

and i’m guilty of this too and i’m going to be better now that i’m more active again

and maybe i’m not seeing as many drabbles because a lot of people i follow for dhr are also writing for fandoms i have muted

5a. i really struggled with the line between a “bad/evil” character and “morally grey”

does draco always make good decisions?

absolutely not (i.e. kidnapping hermione, threatening harry + ginny)

are some of those decisions made with what he believes to be good intentions?

yes!

4. i wanted to add a scene of draco being so unhinged and toxic that he forced hermione to get a tattoo/brand with the word “mine” or “belongs to draco” somewhere

but the fic never got to that place and i couldn’t find another way to make it fit

3. in a darker version of this story, hermione actually does die at the end, prompting draco to lose his grip on reality and fog full scorched earth against ginny, blaise, and harry

2c. if the story had gone down a darker path, i think hermione would have embraced “pet” as her identity in the same way we see her stop referring to Draco as Draco and only as “Sir,” even in her thoughts (this starts around chapter 13/14)

2b. this, of course, did not stick as i finished the story, i realized that hermione had some ownership in her choices.

not a lot, but enough that even after everything, a sliver of her is still there.

2a. when writing hermione’s pov in the epilogue, i debated having hermione refer to herself as “Pet.”

draco calls her “pet” more than he calls her by hermione in the fic.

i toyed with the idea of her only being “Pet” and “Mom” - with no identity outside of that

1b. at another point, it was going to be hermione’s pov, and she was going to signal to ginny that it was her and that she needed saved from draco - which would have led to a sequel

this got axed because i don’t think i’m capable of writing that type of action packed, high drama, high stakes story

1a. the epilogue evolved so much over writing.

at one point, it was going to be just the scene at the market told from ginny’s pov, and ending with ginny deciding there’s no way it was actually hermione

i don’t know if anyone even cares about these but i want to share and if you don’t want to read this, just skip it (i won’t love you an less)
