16.08.2025 17:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0That is actually a skipper butterfly, and my guess would be Peckβs Skipper, although some of them are really hard to tell apart.
16.08.2025 17:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Tomorrow and Sunday, Iβll be at 62 East St. N. In Dundas giving tours of one of my design/installations (natives and rain gardens) and answering questions. See you there?
16.08.2025 00:07 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A couple more great pollinator plants: #MountainMint And #CulversRoot
14.08.2025 17:35 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0#OrangeMintMoth on our #Oenothera gaura. The common name should be Sweet Moth Blossomβ,, not #SweetBeeBlossom! In the evening, which seems to be its primary bloom time, it is COVERED in moths!
14.08.2025 11:57 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Such a good idea to have them in pots, and move them into the garage! Everybody wins, except the raccoons.
08.08.2025 17:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Most insects had a very slow start this year. Population seen down overall. Except for #MagnoliaScale. π
07.08.2025 11:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Woohoo! Our first #MonarchCaterpillar of the year!
07.08.2025 10:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 02of2 This #compostedmulch comes from @safetreeltd in the Niagara Region and Iβm SUPER-impressed with it!
02.08.2025 14:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 01of2Heather of @plantwisedesign is one of my favorite colleagues! She works out of the Pt. Colborne area. Here she is helping us mulch the #ValFlemingButterflyGarden to keep weeds down and support the soil microbiome. It also helps keep moisture in and it just looks amazing! 2β thick is about right.
02.08.2025 14:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Loving the camera on my new iPhone 16 Pro! 5X optical zoom lens. Check out this coyote checking me out!
02.08.2025 11:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Hey folks! If youβre going to be in the Komoka area, Iβm giving a speech on August 10. Thereβs also a lovely pollinator garden nearby that Iβm going to be checking out β βEthanβs Gardenβ.

A walk through our #ValFlemingButterflyGarden
28.07.2025 14:01 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It keeps blowing me away! Such a great plant!
27.07.2025 21:59 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Mia, our newest helper, is planting some of our #WinterSeeding success stories, including #WildSenna and #MarshAster! Maybe we will have some of these ready for the next plant sale in September!
27.07.2025 21:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Another great Native Plant that is fabulous for pollinators is #WildSenna! (Senna hebicarpa)
26.07.2025 15:23 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 1Normally, this would be a project for mid to late August, but this has also been a perfect year for fungal infections. I think it might be prudent to cut Bearded Iris back to a 6 inch fan presently and clean up all the dead leaves to avoid #IrisLeafSpot.
25.07.2025 20:45 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 1Wow! I found them at Home Hardware. Maybe check there.
25.07.2025 20:29 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0They are easily controlled with the use of non-toxic nematodes. Follow the directions on the package. Adults are nocturnal and feed onleaves. Larvae feed on the roots.
24.07.2025 19:39 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0See the tiny nibble marks that make sort of a scallop pattern on the edges of these Bergenia leaves? That is the damage from #BlackVineWeevil. They feed on species including Yew, Impatiens, Rhododendrons and many more. (See comments for solution)

10.07.2025 00:03 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0A little visit to our #ValFlemingButterflyGarden in the @townoflincolnon where we have lots of life and butterflies are actually laying eggs!
22.07.2025 16:16 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Samuel from #ElmviewFarms just delivered us another beautiful load of Composted Mulch. As you may remember,#CompostedMulch is my FAVORITE mulch! All of this is spoken for upcoming projects. π
22.07.2025 15:03 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Today we installed some Feather Friendly Bird Collision Deterrent Markers on our little glassed in gazebo. Nice to know the birds are safe! Thanks, Matt and Jamie for the work and the filming.
11.07.2025 23:38 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thanks for sharing. Hope to see you there.
10.07.2025 19:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Now is a great time to watch out for and pick off Rose Sawflies in the garden. They can be quite devastating. Also look for a curling near the tips of the stem which indicate egg laying sites. Look underneath and youβll see the scarring from the egg laying. Trim that off.
09.07.2025 19:18 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 1A little more about our upcoming plant sale this Saturday and Sunday from 9 AM until 4 PM, at 10765 Fifth Line Nassagaweya, Miltonβ¦
09.07.2025 10:39 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 1Columnar nativars (cultivars of native plants) are useful for creating a screen in a tight space.
07.07.2025 18:45 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Apparently, hummingbirds are attracted to Penstemon! π€©
