Today I reported Chicago Public Schools to the city and the state for failing to even try to fix a hostile work environment.

Fresh officers get paid less, too. So even if they’re replaced, good for the budget.

praise for a few things:

Making Kal working class and having the S shield be a symbol of that was smart.

Making Brainiac into a “fuck you, got mine” bootstrap story as a parallel to Kal is smart (though it feels unintended)

And again, I’m mostly saying this because they’re woefully under/mis-used. Alfred is, too, largely a machine for exposition/justification of the plot.

Jimmy and Lois are interesting, as I don’t think you could just excise them the way you might Alfred, but they’re pretty meh as well.

The Kents and Martha Wayne both reinforce the idea that these characters need a reason to be good (they aren’t the ONLY reason), which sort of undermines the idea that this universe is supposed to be hell and there is something intrinsic to these characters that makes them heroes despite it.

Absolute Update: reading Superman as I wait for my third drug/tb test combo for Chicago Public Schools.

They gave us AN issue with the Kents and I stand by what I said: these series would be better served by emotional anchors’ absence.
