as somebody who used to get bizarrely aggressive about this kinda thing for absolutely no reason than just because i decided it was something i was Allowed to be aggressive about: it's weird! weird behavior. what're we accomplishing with nurturing this venomous feeling in ourselves.

lrs i do wish ppl would stop with the vocal lala hate. like it's one thing to not wanna play them or to have personal boundaries about nsfw with them (i do!) but i just think loud hostility for them on principle is weird and unpleasant. 😭

my goal in ffxiv is to make people unafraid of having/drawing lala wols tbh. really wish there were more of them in the western space. several friends told me that they got bullied out of playing a lala and thats just sad to me

On balance I do think "The writers don't understand the characters" (and other variations thereof) is one of the funnier things a fan can say about a story even in the rare case it happens to be true

Like we must all sorta take a look at ourselves and ask what we really mean by that because I promise you most of the time it's "the version of the character I have built around the original in my head through repeated viewings and reading fan content wouldn't have done or said that"

and I mean there's nothing wrong with disagreeing with a direction a writer or director or even an actor has taken a character in, but to claim you fundamentally understand that character more is just a very odd way to think about all that

I don't care how many followers you have.
You don't get removed for racist behavior and then respond with harassment and intimidation. You don't threaten to rally your followers to target me and the artists I work with.
