A lot of our work involved careful thinking about how to implement visually realistic, yet accessible AR experiences that add a genuinely meaningful layer over the real-world statues and objects in the museums, and crucially make it easy-to-use for audiences of all ages.

We had a hugely talented and dedicated team at Nexus who recreated the present-day scans and handcrafted the restored artefacts, as well as turning them into well-optimised AR experiences. The fantastic team at Meta were closely involved and supportive, a great team!

I'm sad to see how much you got right, as well as how much worse things are in some aspects.

Its interesting. Part of why this happens could be that people often feel that talking about a new idea or project feels like actually doing something, but many people don't know how to tangibly take the next step, to actually start the work itself. So they don't follow through.

Thank you. And I know this isn’t new, and has been explored extensively by many. Still useful, I’ll check these. I’m thinking aloud more than anything.

But I do think it explains the inexplicable extremism and destructiveness from people who previously seemed more reasonable. It simply pays better - directly or indirectly - to stir shit. Its good money. And that’s a wave we have seen slowly rise out of the ocean surface and it’s now a tsunami.

I guess another way to frame it that most people did not realise what they were an active part of creating. A powder keg, a tool of destruction. The vast majority of people thought this would be a net positive contribution to world order, equality and human progress. Right now it very much is not.

I think its an unintended consequence for the vast majority of people. Or perhaps just unexpected. The optimism around early social platforms (2010ish) did not include this outcome for many. But I agree that some saw this coming very early on. And they have shaped the outcome today intentionally.

Yes I’ve seen these possible scenarios being discussed, and hope they happen. But leaders of these countries (EU, Starmer, Trudeau) are in a huge conundrum. You would be hesitant to take any action that’d give Trump cause to make things worse. It’s a kind of emotional blackmail.

I don’t think there’s a whole lot anyone can realistically do at this point. If you’re the UK government you’re in a bind, stuck between a rock and a hard place. And if you’re Canada and the EU you can only prepare but have to wait till things play out? Key is not to antagonise and make them worse.

We’ve been working on an #AR #AI language learning tool for some time, but now reworked it for #SnapAR #Spectacles. What feels really frictionless about this is pointing as an input method, giving us a contextual understanding within a scene 1/2

And at a time like this, when so much of public culture is destructive, oppressive, manipulative and extractive, and hate, division and violence are so openly and shamelessly celebrated, I'm thinking we need human art more than ever. We need reference points for coping. Sorry kinda cheesy.
