CUTE LITTLE BUDDY FRIEND. This is a jumping spider, and all you can see is its eyes and bunched up limbs as it is tucked behind the branch of a tree, hiding as if to say, "You cannot see me, I am too clever." Its eyes are black and shiny, but somehow adorable, perhaps because of the impression of dewy eyelashes. It's a cute spider. You can't see the rest of it but it is, I believe, Paraphidippus Auranthus, or an emerald jumping spider. Photo by me, Chuck Wendig

FORBIDDEN GUMMY WORM. Okay, not a gummy worm, but this caterpillar looks kind of like a gummy worm? The caterpillar is bright red with a mottled, almost tortoiseshell head. The caterpillar is bent at the fore and is on a leaf drooping forward. Its body is covered in cresting peaks of tiny bristles. It is, I believe, the caterpillar of a luna moth.
