Wicked City on Tubi is actually a pretty good show. It draws on all the right fantasy tropes, has interesting and layered characters, and I love the lesbian lovers subplots. They touch on a lot of important themes and best of all, all the (important) characters are black (women).

I finished it. I was completely unsatisfied with the story overall, but it gets 4 of 5 stars for construction alone. The story itself wasn't worth the read - or suffering through the discomfort.

I despise the normalisation of any of it within the tales being told and that's what I think I respect the most. That I can loathe and love such masterful, heinous, wonderful work all at once.

I like her writing, her conceptualisation of mythology and characters, the immersiveness of her world-building. I'm even in awe of how she makes me wrestle with myself about how I feel reading her work, because the content is dark in these stories, and it's presented without moral judgement and

Like, I just don't feel like when folks are putting Ms Octavia on 'must read' lists that they're giving us the full 360 on what we're getting with her. That or they haven't really read her. Or her other stuff is far more sanitised - I dunno, it's only my second book - otherwise I'm not getting it.

Add on the racial dynamics that play into it as well and I'm about ready to put this book down, too. I just can't get the horror of it out of my head. And both books are so good. SO good. But I *can't* CAN'T get through them, or past the content in them.

Now, reading Fledgling, I am disgusted by the presentation of paedophilia. Like, hello, in both species Shori is considered a child!!!! And yet it's written such that her relative age to her human counterparts makes sexual relationships with human adults acceptable. And it's constant.

I couldn't finish Wild Seed because the philosophical and moral conundrum of the inc*st and r*pe plot line were too much mental gymnastics for me and I was repulsed. I still want to go back and finish the book at some point, but HOW. How?

Reading Octavia Butler. Again. This is my second try. I'm not easily perturbed, in fact I enjoy most heinous things - I say that without pride and only as a fact - but she, *she*, disturbs me. Greatly. I'm so unsettled.

Season 2 of Dreaming Whilst Black was even better than the first. Really enjoyed it. Rooting for Kwanessa! Actually the storyline I love most in the show!

Weapons was an hour and two POVs too long. Jesus. Real dull viewing and the underlying premise was flimsy.

GIDDY! must analyse why. Feels like that very first dose of Sertraline. Wired as shit. But, like, in a good way.

One of the things I hate most in movies is having a white protagonist in a car scene rapping the lyrics to a 90s hip-hop/rap song with "gangsta" hand gestures and facial expressions. It's so cringe. Hate it.

Why did they remake War of the Worlds? Why did they do it in this way? And who was there like: 'you know what, Ice Cube will be great for this!' I'm offended on Tom's behalf.

My pet peeve in movies is where they pit an East Asian actor who is clearly a real life martial arts expert against a random hench white actor who is so obviously performing fight choreography I can count it and expects me to be convinced that its an even match and I should anticipate the outcome.

The WhatsApp privacy ad is funny because while they keep saying they can't read or view the messages or media sent, they inadvertently communicated that they can see everything you're doing through the front facing camera while you use the app. And the brazeness of that made me chuckle.

K-Pop Demon Hunters bangs. Animation, music, character arcs, storyline, character design. Really enjoyed it.

So many beautiful macabre details in The Sandman that I missed the first time. Looking forward to the new season. I want more of Death. I love Kirby Howell-Baptiste.
