The Island of Dr. Moreau is also very Tempest-y. I don't have a link for it, but I've always had a soft spot for the 1996 version. Completely weird, late 90s bleak insanity with a completely insane production. Not even sure how it got made, actually. It's like The Tempest twice.

Pekes! When I was a kid, I 100% thought Munkustrap was saying pigs, so until I actually read the poem (or maybe read the lyrics, I don't remember which came first) I thought "pigs" was cat slang for dogs. Like cops.

What are they called? Pollicle dogs. Jellicle cats and pollicle dogs. Something like that. It's been a long time since I read the poem.

Digital painting of a sunset sky: a pink and orange veil is covering most of it, with a couple of rows of long, thin, purple clouds in the lower quarter of the frame.
We report at the end of a strange, warm, sunny day. We spent it attempting to reconcile our idea of an early March day with the lukewarm wind we felt on our face. As the sun is setting, the crisp humidity is swallowing half of the thermometer in one fell swoop.

And they're done! I'm so happy with how this turned out. I'm starting to feel a little more confident in being able to produce finished illustrations in traditional media, not just studies. πThis is watercolor + gouache., with a little bit of color pencil and pastel for final touches.

Planetary astrophysicist by day, space artist by night. The year is 2022 & my PhD research inspires me to create a giant multi-spectral Jupiter painting. Oh shit, did I just invent my own style? I decide to leave academia & take a chance on my art.

Hey I know it's trendy right now to face your books out on the shelf to show off the covers, but books are not designed for this. Books are designed to be pressed against other books. If you set them face-out they'll warp, and you'll destroy the binding. Friendly tip to save your books.

a hazy, more direct view of the same bridge
I was watching a travel video, and for a quick second in the video, I spied a beautiful cable-stayed bridge, and I spent the next ten minutes identifying it. It's the SkyBridge, a cable-stayed railroad bridge in Vancouver. Look at this beautiful bridge:

A watercolor painting of a satyr embracing a young man from behind, gently peeling apart the man's flesh on his chest. Birds emerge from the opening in the man's chest. The man reaches one hand to back to caress the satyr's face, the other presses the satyr's hand to his chest. There's some circular celtic knotwork designs on the borders. The overall colors are warm golds and browns.
Finally finished this up! It's done in watercolor, gouache, and color pencils. I know I should try to render it in more detail but I'm not sure I want to. I like the texture being able to be textures. Maybe that will change in the future. For now, though, I like it π
