Thanks to the slightly irritating limit of 60 second videos on here I am having to link to my Facebook page to publish my speeches at Lib Dem Conference in Bournemouth.
The first is about how Hong Kongers should have the right to pass on their language freely and without fear.

Honoured to meet with visiting members of the Japanese Diet, Mssrs Edano, Funada and Koichi. We discussed the opportunity to strengthen Japan-UK relations at a time when our liberal democracies feel under threat. We also shared our experience of the role of parliament in scrutinising government.

Understanding how each kids learns and the support they need should be part of the education system.
From bouncing along to EDM to enjoying Beethoven at City Hall, the nightlife is for everyone.
Which is why we need better busses, lower costs and safer nights out to ignite the night.
Dear Mr Farage Welcome to Oxfordshire. You came here to talk about βmass deportationsβ but made no effort to understand the people or challenges of this community. Your proposals offer no costed plan. Daily flights, new detention centres and vast surveillance systems would cost billions. Empty slogans are not a substitute for serious policy. It did not go unnoticed that you spoke just minutes from Campsfield House, where a detention centre is being rebuilt despite local opposition and past scandals. Yet you chose not to meet residents living with those consequences. You often invoke Winston Churchill, born here in Oxfordshire. He spent his career grappling with difficult truths and forging alliances in our national interest. Instead of sowing division, we should build on that legacy. Our immigration system is broken after years of Government failure. It needs urgent, practical reform: fair, managed migration to meet workforce shortages, a faster asylum system and support for those fleeing war and persecution. That requires cooperation and honesty, not division. If you return, I would be glad to show you Oxfordshireβs real story: businesses thriving thanks to home and overseas talent, health and care services desperate for staff and residents supporting refugees with compassion. You would see a community interested in solving problems, not fuelling conflict. Yours sincerely Calum Miller MP
I have written to Nigel Farage in response to his visit to my constituency of Bicester and Woodstock today.

Disgraceful that Starmer uses it as a bargaining chip.
Statement from Ed Davey: Recognition of the state of Palestine should not be used as a bargaining chip. It should have happened months ago. We also need far greater action to stop the humanitarian disaster in Gaza, including fully ceasing arms sales and implementing sanctions against the Israeli cabinet.
The Liberal Democrats welcome this first step but urge Keir Starmer to go further and recognise Palestine immediately.
Far greater action is also needed to address the humanitarian disaster in Gaza, including fully ceasing arms sales and imposing sanctions on the Israeli cabinet.

Great to be out these last few days talking to the residents of Grenoside and Ecclesfield.
Understandably there is only one thing that they want to talk about!
What a great group of people to spend the Local Government Association Conference with.
Got to know these wonderful people over the last year on #NextGen19.
If this is the future of the party then we are in good hands.
GOOOOOOOOOD MORNING STOCKSBRIDGE

Politicians and journalists have a tense relationship but we shouldn't relish when journalism suffers. In the world of AI and disinformation the need to have someone able to investigate and find the truth is important.
This is shortsighted and deeply worrying.
I've been chatting with people in that bastion of the liberal left, Stocksbridge, and they also dislike child poverty.
Maybe have a think about that
If Level 1 Lib Demmery is having opinions on letterboxes, Level 2 is surely having an opinion on doorbells and doorknockers.
(I have yet to formulate a ranking but Ring Doorbells are at the bottom)

(Though not enough, but that is always the case)
Also, a wealth tax isn't Lib Dem policy...
27.05.2025 14:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Here is the fiscal document from the 2024 Manifesto. It could also be an idea to borrow to fund it, given that improved skills and knowledge leads to better productivity and growth.
This increases the tax base counteracting the borrowing costs. It's called Keynesian Economics
Its almost like a former Governer of the Bank of England understands the beneficial macro-economics of investing in education at all stages of life. Maybe us Liberals are on to something...
(Don't look at Australia and what that lot are up to)
A Lifelong Skills Grant has featured in both the 2019 and 2024 Lib Dem manifesto.
The money is there, it is political decision stopping it. I understand the "black hole" argument but we are tying the hands of our economic future by being too austere with things that have a straight line to growth.
A great, albeit a tad damp, weekend in Stocksbridge.
Not much love for Labour out there...
One would hope so, but for some companies co-funding might be the only way to justify the spend on Level 7 Apprenticeships. I know of one person who is under no illusion that their company wouldn't have offered a Level 7 apprenticeship had there not been the financial support.
27.05.2025 11:14 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I was suspicious when Labour made zero mention of lifelong learning in their manifesto. It has now been confirmed that they don't care.
In a changing world there is increasing need to upskill and reskill in the workplace, which is now a lot harder thanks to Labour.
When they can't even get the spelling of one of the towns in the ward correct, how can they be trusted to do anything right?
Shows how much Labour cares.
(It's Oughtibridge)
I am not going to pretend that the mess the Tories left didn't exist. Labour had a fair job of clearing it up.
Labour's approach since then has been chaotic, confused and incoherent.
I wished that they would do better, but alas they failed at that.
To think that I set off that morning on a relaxing, post locals, holiday to Sussex to help me unwind and forget about politics for a bit.
Only to find myself delivering my first leaflets and knocking on the first doors of the General Election for @jessbrownfullermp.bsky.social in Chichester.

How time flies.
Found myself in Westminster watching PMQs as rumours started to fly about a General Election.
What followed was seven of the most tiring weeks of my life.
But it ended with 72 Lib Dem MPs!
This is what you get when an ideological void with no political backbone becomes Prime Minister, a speech that would have sounded harsh coming from a Tory happening purely because they are terrified of local elections results.
