Exactly. My students actually looked this woman up, let folks know on Goodreads, & told me about it after they did it. They were “merciless.” 👏🏼

Poet, professor, scholar of Indigenous rhetorics & literatures, actress, producer, consultant, crocheter, seamstress, beader, Mom, Kaku/Nana, Wonder Woman, Rance’s nukwupu. Warning—this is where I almost strictly poet away my time. “I” is not always “me.”

Fallout continues from one of the most appalling cases of scientific misconduct I've ever come across: journal retracts 138(!) case studies as fictional. (Incredibly, it may have to un-retract one that is not fake.)
(New Yorker piecethat set off the current furor: www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...)
It’s mind-boggling that they actually did this! I’m completely appalled. Here we are in other fields assuming we should be honest in our scholarship, but researchers on CHILDREN’S HEALTH feel fine just making stuff up.

Idk what happened to 5
This are the rest of our readings:
Marcella Bell: The Longest Ride &
The Rodeo Queen
Pamela Sanderson: Heartbeat Braves
Kari Lynn Dell: Last Chance Rodeo
Maggie Blackbird: Blessed
Eliana Ramage: To the Moon and Back
Nope, her and Cassie Edwards are still writing & publishing their garbage & making bank. The one I used for comparison is by Lee Ann Sontheimer Murphy. Dude even works nightshift at casino to avoid going out during the day & RUNS WITH BUFFALO AT NIGHT IN THE WILDLIFE REFUGE.

5. The others we will read after that are
Marcella Bell: The Longest Ride
The Rodeo Queen
Pamela Sanderson: Heartbeat Braves
Kari Lynn Dell: Last Chance Rodeo
Maggie Blackbird: Blessed
Eliana Ramage: To the Moon and Back
4. Then, we moved on to recently written texts that are structured as romance readers expect—the YA Hearts Unbroken by Cynthia Leitich, Danica Nava’s two: The Truth According to Ember and Love is a War Song. We are on the first of those.
05.03.2026 01:29 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 03. Then, we started Native written romance novels, beginning with the oldest (1927) Cogewea, by Mourning Dove. Then we read the first of the contemporary era (2014) Evangeline Parsons Yazzie’s Her Land, Her Love. But neither of those is structured as we expect romances to be today. Plus, not spicy.
05.03.2026 01:22 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 02. Then, I covered MMIWP and sexual violence in colonization. Then, we read the most stereotypical romance I could find—The Comanche Vampire. How does one satisfy a fetish for Indian warriors from the 1800s? You make him a vampire. That author has some serious issues.
05.03.2026 01:12 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 01. Fun fact—more representations of Natives occur romance novels written by white women for white women than in any other medium. Finally, there are enough Native written romances to have a semester long course. I started with lecturing on stereotypes of Native people in American pop culture.

The sun didn’t rise
#Lethargy crept filling us up
From our toes to our eyes
Like a moonflower maiden i stood still
When the air had hung silent
I should have known it be an omen
The dark side of a love spell
Sent by the moon
Falling commets crashing stars
F me! I left the #counter out and that he’s standing behind!

Essie decided to check something out. “Excuse me, do we have a copy of the movie Pan’s Labyrinth?” she inquired.
He stared at her a minute longer, talking an interference with his habitual #lethargy, “That’f be in Arcane #Media down the hall. Better ask Chris.”

Burdened with #cataract skies
Shoulders heavy knees caving
Faraway horizons can’t see
Can’t dream
You the only medicine only cure
Making clouds disappear dissipate
If you grab my hand
I can become a trapeze artist
Dancing in the air
Calmly through skies cloudless
There's a point, around the age of twenty, when you have to choose whether to be like everybody else the rest of your life, or to make a virtue of your peculiarities.

Absolutely! I just have to avoid wheat, barley, and rye in the US and Canada. I love my alternative flours.

The old man who worked the front desk had one blue #catarac eye. He gawked at her from behind the #counter with his one, clear hazel eye as Essie breezed in from Neña’s house for work. As a seer, he made an excellent guard for both the building & the books. He saw thru folks.

The true horror lay in the #splendour of her appearance. All around her was rags and bones and filth, but it drew back to avoid touching the hem of her heavily embroidered skirts. The price she must have paid for such pristine luxury was terrifying.
#vss365 (splendour)
The kitchen held a small domestic #splendor. Golden eggs rested softly on their plates, crisp bacon curled beside them, and the rich perfume of fresh bread drifted from the oven. It was not a grand meal, nor meant to impress, but there was a kind of comfort in its simple abundance. #vss365
