The old man who worked the front desk had one blue #catarac eye. He gawked at her from behind the #counter with his one, clear hazel eye as Essie breezed in from Neña’s house for work. As a seer, he made an excellent guard for both the building & the books. He saw thru folks.

The true horror lay in the #splendour of her appearance. All around her was rags and bones and filth, but it drew back to avoid touching the hem of her heavily embroidered skirts. The price she must have paid for such pristine luxury was terrifying.

Been working on that from an academic perspective in Native Studies since the late 90s. It is amazing how many folks designated male at birth think objectification is an inherent, biological component of male sexuality. Teaching a Native romance novel class right now, so that’s my venue for now.

Figuring out healthy sexuality during the death throes of capitalism & empire is hard. Even decolonizing Western sexuality is hard for Indigenous folks. I don’t care what anyone is into either, but folks got to figure out how to get turned on without objectifying anyone, & that is the biggest issue.

The last thing anyone could call Dylan was #timid, and he made certain everyone in Fleet Headquarters knew it. He was justifiably angry, and if they booted him from the fleet, so be it, but they needed to hear how bad their pussyfooting had made things.
There would be a reckoning either way.

Pt414 It was a good thing that she was #timid about romance. She had been such a young widow, losing su esposó while she was still expecting their daughter. Then, there was the fling with Jesse, the married principal at the school where she taught at the time. That had been a mistake. Fooling around with a married man was a sure way to a un corazón destrozado. Essie had to #face the fact that Esahabit was taken, had been for a while. She decided that she should focus on her writing. She had always been good at it, had wanted to be an author as a child. Here, she had the time & the resources to finally fulfill that dream. She was going to write a best seller that would sweep IT, New Mississippi, y Nuevo Aztlan. As the new composition & creative writing instructor, she was also in charge of the press & book bindery. Because my Aunt Evelyn was a nurse at NASA and did physicals for folks like John Glenn, I got cool behind-the-scenes tours on the regular and ate a lot of freeze-dried ice cream. Btw, I have NO idea who the man in the picture is, but my outfit fit in just fine with the 70s NASA professional look. Notice the woven hemp rope trim on my little cotton blouse and those shoes. I still love those kind of sandals thanks to Becky Lundell, my very young aunt who made them look so cool as she was a really hip teenager, and I had to copy her any way I could.
