Trump offers Qatar, which gave him a fancy plane, a NATO-like security guarantee
Without bothering to go through Congress, the president signed an executive order this week vowing to defend Qatar in the event of a foreign attack.
This didnโt generate a ton of front-page headlines, but Trump this week signed an executive order rewarding Qatar with a NATO-like security guarantee โ without bothering to go through Congress.
Is this the same country that gave him a fancy plane? Yes. Yes it is. www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...

Trump just ordered the military into Portland, and heโs giving them the green light to use lethal force on American citizens.
Authoritarianism is an abstract concept but Trump is making its impacts real and tangible. Letโs be real about it: This is the beginning of dictatorship in America.

Many of the critters that grow on substrates of the ocean represent lower levels of the food web. We sampled some of them for stable isotope and energy density analysis, to better understand the flow of energy in the Gulf of Maine!

All of that life growing on the receiver likely decreased its ability to detect our tagged cod (and other tagged animals in the area), but was still getting some detections so didn't completely block it from working!

The massive list of suspended UCLA grants came out today: 300 NSF and 500 NIH grants. I am miraculously not on the list, but this is devastating. Science will be lost, progress will be frozen, people will lose jobs, and careers in science and medicine are being destroyed. This is not ok.

Gov. Ayotte vetoes book removal bill, bathroom ban bill, more Republican legislation
Republican Gov. Kelly Ayotte vetoed seven New Hampshire bills, many intended to strengthen parental rights, bucking conservative wing of her party.
Incredible news out of New Hampshire tonight: we pushed the Republican governor (who faces re-election every 2 years) to veto a book ban AND an anti-trans bathroom ban ๐๐ฝ๐๐ฝ๐๐ฝ๐๐ฝ

Poor and working class students of color ALSO face the bullshit racism from people like Andreessen who use their existence as a shield from a real discussion about social inequality in society and as a mechanism for distributing the psychological wages of whiteness that white solidarity depends on.
12.07.2025 12:20 โ ๐ 658 ๐ 80 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 2
Of course Andreessen's position is racist as fuck but I wanted to directly address what he's avoiding discussing: the actual barriers poor and working class students face to accessing higher education -- including the white ones. Of course poor and working class students of color face the same ones+
12.07.2025 12:20 โ ๐ 811 ๐ 94 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 2
The white students who are struggling to make ends meet are not struggling because Black and immigrant students got into our university. They are struggling because of a shitty social safety net & high tuition because people like Andreesen don't pay sufficient taxes/the state doesn't pay its share.
12.07.2025 12:14 โ ๐ 1775 ๐ 337 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 13
One of our biggest struggles in the classroom is figuring out how to balance workload against the real world demands our students face: so many of them are working too many hours, in some cases basically full time, to be able to afford tuition and basics. White students, struggling.

I'm a professor at the flagship university for the fourth whitest state in the US. Over 80% of our students are white.
The biggest barrier to access here is that due to lack of state funding, we have top 10 highest tuition per capita of public unis in the country.
We also have a food pantry.
