Indivisible Stanislaus would like to thank the many stakeholders who helped make No Kings II a success on Saturday, October 18th. No Kings II was a peaceful, well-organized event that drew strong visibility at the McHenry and Briggsmore intersection in Modesto. Throughout the day, community members stopped by, drove past, or gathered near local businesses to see what was happening, ensuring our message rang clear: America has never had, and never will have, a dictator or king. We extend our gratitude to the organizations and volunteers who co-hosted this event with us, including the Modesto Progressive Democrats, Central Valley Democratic Club, Stanislaus County Democratic Central Committee, and 50501. Your collaboration and dedication were essential to the event’s success. Special thanks also go to the Modesto Progressive Democrats, Central Valley Democratic Club, and NAACP Stanislaus/Modesto for leading efforts in support of Yes on 50. Your recognition of the urgency to counter the Republican power grab of the House of Representatives by red states is deeply appreciated. Our democracy is at a breaking point. In Texas, Republicans, at the direction of President Trump, are attempting an unprecedented power grab: a mid-decade redistricting designed to steal five congressional seats ahead of the 2026 midterms. Let’s be clear. This is not politics as usual. This is partisan gerrymandering in direct violation of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. These maps would disenfranchise millions of voters of color while cementing Republican control of the House of Representatives, not just for the next cycle, but indefinitely. We cannot stand by and watch the system be dismantled in plain sight. Silence is complicity. California has long led the way by using independent redistricting commissions—a model we believe should be adopted nationwide. But in this extraordinary moment, we support the State of California in temporarily redrawing its own districts to offset the seats Texas Republicans are attempting to steal. This action should remain temporary, in effect only as long as Texas persists with its illegal maps. If Texas stands down, so should we. Until then, we cannot afford to “go high” while they go low. We must fight fire with fire to defend democracy itself. We demand that other Democratic trifecta states respond in kind whenever Republicans attempt to rig elections through mid-decade gerrymandering.
