I think it's easy to think of escalation as the best possible next step, when in fact de-escalation most often deprives them of their power and takes the wind out of their sails. What would effective de-escalation look like?
What a dumbass. Federal buildings in Portland are not in need of defending. This is pathetic political theater. They never had any intention of legitimately governing.

It was a surprise, happened quickly, was massively public and easy to understand, and enough people knew that a simple but effective thing: to stop buying the product, would shake the company whose sole interest is money.

Nope. Look at what capitalistic greed did to us. Look at how the wealthy keep us fighting each other while we get sicker and poorer and they keep raking in record profits.
People thought our system was broken for good reason. But the broken part wasn't our Democratic process.
The broken part is the Capitalism bit. It's why the middle class/poor are falling behind and they're so blindly mad about it they've been conned into believing other poor people are the problem.
