And though they weren’t on the battlefields, whales and dolphins also played their part, trained by some militaries for detection and rescue work.

Horses carried soldiers into battle. Dogs delivered messages & detected danger. Pigeons saved lives by carrying communications across enemy lines. Even elephants, camels, & mules worked tirelessly to transport supplies through unimaginable conditions. They had no choice, yet they gave everything 🕊️

We need to develop cleaner renewable energy sources to reduce our fossil fuel use and tackle the climate crisis. We need the industry to reduce harmful levels of underwater noise and for the UK government to set noise limits that protect whales, dolphins and porpoises.

It can force them from vital habitats, cause injury and hearing loss and in extreme cases even kill them. Loud noise plunges their world into chaos.

The construction and maintenance of offshore energy developments create a constant barrage of underwater noise. Even moderate noise from human activity can drown out their calls, break social bonds and cause stress and disorientation.

You couldn’t sleep, talk or concentrate – you’d be stressed and desperate to escape, just like whales, dolphins and porpoises in noisy seas.

Whales and dolphins live in a world of sound. They rely on it to communicate, navigate, hunt, and stay connected with one another. But human noise is drowning it out. Imagine a pneumatic drill inside your house, a train rumbling below and a car alarm screaming nonstop.
