Same but especially with abandoned senior cats. Ever since the Cat Distribution System™︎ intervened a few yrs ago with a scraggly old man cat running up to my car on the verge of death, I have a soft spot for “elderly babies”. He was 20+ and I adored him. He lived another 2yrs in love and comfort

I sometimes feel like I care more about animals than people. I think it has a lot to do with the seemingly infinite capacity for humans to carry out the most extreme acts of cruelty and depravity, against the most vulnerable (both human and animal). Sadistic cruelty is a uniquely human trait

Sometimes I think the only thing stopping me from just going “Fuck it, we’re witnessing the final act of the human experiment of uncontrolled planetary destruction, and if the machines end up killing us all, we’ll deserve it” is the fact that cats exist.

Without my cats I probably wouldn’t be here.

It’s weird the reactions I get from other men when they see how utterly devoted I am to my cats. I’ve found it jarring sometimes, but it has opened my eyes to how often men frame things in terms of ownership

They’re independent & strong-willed, and will 100% call you out on your bullshit if you fuck with them. RWers can’t take that. They expect worship for no effort.

My cats are perfect little assholes, and the fact I’ve had to put in the work to earn their love/trust makes it all the more rewarding

I’ve thought about this both in terms of gender roles and political ideology, only with cats instead of dogs (with similar observations)

Toxic masculinity seems to reject cats for being “female-coded”, yet I wonder whether it’s more to the fact that their trust and respect actually has to be earned
