i once wrote dialogue for elenion about this! basically, he was excited to meet elminster at first, and then INCREDIBLY hurt and saddened that mystra would demand something so horrible of gale. he couldn't believe gale would accept it and was determined to help him find another way.

Oh, and for a little fun fact: being a bard he uses prestidigitation for many things during performances, but his signature is to cast silver sparkles that look like stardust all around himself and the stage! Karlach calls him "Sparkles" because he does that around the campfire too haha.

I've actually edited this several times since I first posted it there... the screenshots I originally had were terrible and Len had an outfit that didn't suit him at ALL lol. And his relationship with Astarion became more important over time until it just felt wrong NOT to list them as best friends.

yeah, i heard that sorcerers can say something about "playing it by ear" and then gale says the same line he says to bards... i just think it makes a LOT more sense for him to relate specifically to bards about magic as an art form rather than sorcerers also getting a music metaphor haha.

and i will try to bring more of my rambles and such that i've posted on tumblr over here haha!

yes exactly, he has a lot of loneliness and pain that he just buries with things like sex and partying, constant touring around faerûn and playing for crowds without much rest... the nautiloid takes him mid-tour and that forces him to really reflect on how he's lived his life.

(attaching a gif i once made of this dialogue just to be as clear as possible what i'm talking about haha. maybe i'm just greedy but i don't think sorcerers should've gotten a music metaphor here.)

no exactly, that's why i said i feel like the game sometimes forgets that bards are also spellcasters and have to study! also, i recently learned sorcerers can get the "we're both playing the same composition" line which is??? i still love that line but why don't sorcs get something more unique lol

it has always bugged me that after the magic lesson with gale bards can say "i never realized it was so easy to cast magic". like HELLO, my bard has been casting magic since they could hold a lute?? but bards do get some other dialogue during that scene that i love!

thank you!! 💙 i have sometimes wished bards had a bit more unique dialogue with gale, since i feel like the game sometimes forgets that a) they're spellcasters too and b) they have to study too. but then, bards already have a LOT of class-specific dialogue so i can't complain too much haha.

oh thank you!! len definitely had friends, he was very easy to get along with, but he's always kinda kept people at arm's length. pre-bg3 he was surrounded by so many people he didn't FEEL lonely, but his friendships with the bg3 companions later make him realize how different things could've been.

elenion would absolutely HATE that i call him a nepo baby but unfortunately for him i think it's really funny 😭 i am also using a title the press gave him that he doesn't like as my username here, oops.

Also: he and Gale get into several arguments during the game about New Olamn vs Blackstaff and who had it harder/whose school is better!

rigorously studying ancient history and folklore, memorizing ancient songs and sagas. So Elenion genuinely enjoyed all of that. He was a great student and his classmates and lovers may not have understood how much time he spent studying, practicing, and pushing himself, but HE knew it.

But on a more positive note: Elenion is a college of lore bard and a huge nerd. As a kid he wasn't sure if he'd become a musician like his father because he thought it might be more fun to be an anthropologist or something! And going to New Olamn isn't just learning to play instruments, it's also

into armor made from pieces of themself that they wore out until they forgot it had ever been anything else!

...Not that he consciously realizes for a long time that that's what happened. He always told himself he just chose to do this because it was fun and empowering and nothing was wrong. Haha.

"But *I* control the narrative now. I decide how people see me, and I want to be desirable"

And that's when they took things they genuinely loved to start with—music and sharing it with others, fashion and beauty and his own body, sex and romance, even just humor and playfulness—and turned it all

he responded by getting uncomfortable and deflecting into sex.

That second relationship ending makes something in Elenion kind of just snap and decide "Okay, if being honest makes me unlovable then I won't be. If all people want is a perfect fantasy then I'll give them one."

their feelings of guilt and insecurity resulted in her dismissing/downplaying it, telling them they were just being overdramatic. The second one ended because THIS time their boyfriend was mainly drawn to their beauty and outward charm so whenever Elenion tried opening up and looking for reassurance
