Friendly reminder: if you are waiting on something from a US-based scientist/reviewer/editor, please realize that we're barely making it through each day putting out non-stop fires and trying not to collapse into tears. We're trying our best, but things will take longer right now. Give grace.

Genuinely curious if itโs more effective to be pressuring state governments over federal reps right now, at least for blue states. Blue state govs are salivating for a POTUS run. Push them to enact sweeping protections at the state level and to be a complete brat towards the fed on our behalf.
12.02.2025 23:05 โ ๐ 117 ๐ 5 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 0The unfortunate reality is that the democratic party ran a losing campaign. They focused more on how evil the opposition was than on giving concrete plans to better the lives of average Americans. Now isn't the time for infighting. No more punching sideways, only up. 25.01.2025 21:24 โ ๐ 149 ๐ 5 ๐ฌ 8 ๐ 0WHO comments on United States announcement of intent to withdraw The World Health Organization regrets the announcement that the United States of America intends to withdraw from the Organization. WHO plays a crucial role in protecting the health and security of the worldโs people, including Americans, by addressing the root causes of disease, building stronger health systems, and detecting, preventing and responding to health emergencies, including disease outbreaks, often in dangerous places where others cannot go. The United States was a founding member of WHO in 1948 and has participated in shaping and governing WHOโs work ever since, alongside 193 other Member States, including through its active participation in the World Health Assembly and Executive Board. For over seven decades, WHO and the USA have saved countless lives and protected Americans and all people from health threats. Together, we ended smallpox, and together we have brought polio to the brink of eradication. American institutions have contributed to and benefited from membership in WHO. With the participation of the United States and other Member States, WHO has over the past 7 years implemented the largest set of reforms in its history, to transform our accountability, cost-effectiveness, and impact in countries. This work continues. We hope the United States will reconsider and we look forward to engaging in constructive dialogue to maintain the partnership between the USA and WHO, for the benefit of the health and well-being of millions of people around the globe.

A friend of mine has skin cancer and was about to start a clinical trial at MD Anderson after his other treatments did not work. Trump's decision to temporarily halt funding for medical research also applies to clinical trials. His treatment is now canceled.
Freezing scientific funding isnโt abstract. In medicine, life or death is often dictated by time. Temporary delays can cause great harm.
