(Eng) A brightly colored, fauvist-style interior painting by Henri Matisse from 1914. A grey and black cat is seen staring intently at a glass bowl of red fish placed on a small table. The background shows green curtains and a window, with flattened forms and vivid contrasts. The scene is calm yet visually striking, with simplified shapes and bold colors typical of Matisse’s expressive style.

Eng. This study explores the emotional bond between charismatic leaders and their followers. Stronger identity increases attachment to leaders—but rejecting disliked leaders doesn’t require identity strength. Why? Because rejecting the out-group leader is already part of the "us" feeling. #populism
Tr.

By pointing fingers at global elites, Trump embodied a core element of populist rhetoric — portraying himself as the defender of “the people” against the elites. This rhetoric played a key role in shaping his image as a true representative of the people.

This study analyzes over 50,000+ tweets from Western European right-wing populist leaders, revealing how their “us vs. them” rhetoric fuels harmful polarization. Security dominates in Spain, crime in Italy, and Islamism in France. Conclusion: Social media amplifies division.

Populism has emerged with different dynamics in different geographies since the last quarter of the 19th century. The characterization of a political actor or movement as “populist” without considering the socio-cultural, socio-political and democratic systems of countries needs empirical findings.

One of the most challenging topics in populism research is charismatic leadership. Not every charismatic leader is a populist and not every populist is charismatic. However historical examples show that populist movements on the left and right are sprouting under the leadership of charismatic leaders.

In the literature on populism, the term “ordinary people” is associated with anti-elitism. Everyone outside the local-global "political and "economic elites" is referred to as “ordinary” and included in the “us” sphere. This coincides with populism's politics of simplicity.

Bandwagon effect. Trump used media to insinuate he had more popular support than he did. Low-info voters saw coverage of Trump’s rallies, thought he must not be that bad since he seemed popular and wasn’t in prison awaiting trial for insurrection and espionage.

Interesting. Also, I'd suggest, depending on the argument and the audience, populists who use the term "ordinary people" to mean "us" usually don't refer to the "elites" as "them". The "us v them" dialectic more often uses "them" to mean a foreign underclass who don't share "our values".
