Is it charismatic leadership that makes a leader populist, or is being populist sufficient on its own to be charismatic? This question preoccupied populism literature for a long time. Today, however, empirical studies have shown that the two issues are independent of each other. #populism

Fascism does not only manifest itself in rhetoric; indifference and apathy are the deepest traces of fascism. If you remain silent when someone who does not think like you is murdered today, you should remember Germany and Hitler very well.

What the Nazis did was to exterminate all communities that they believed would harm Germany in the future because they did not think like them. Those who today consider it legitimate to kill a person because of their thoughts are unaware that they are a modern version of Nazi fascism.

Hobsbawm, in 1875–1914, depicts this period as one where capitalism reached its peak, imperialism attained its zenith, yet growing inequalities, social conflicts, and nationalist rivalries laid the groundwork for World War I.

The book, with its interdisciplinary approach, holds a unique place in the literature.

This article is an excellent guide for those interested in populism studies. It addresses fundamental topics such as what populism is, its types, and its global rise within the context of the relationship between democracy and populism. #populism and #democracy

Media is elemental in creating the myth of the populist leader. It's all sleight of hand and lipstick on a pig. What is new (in the US) is unfettered money and the rise of Oligarchs. Trump's illusion of wealth and power began on TV when he was broke. His genesis was a phony reality show.

Eng. This study explores the emotional bond between charismatic leaders and their followers. Stronger identity increases attachment to leaders—but rejecting disliked leaders doesn’t require identity strength. Why? Because rejecting the out-group leader is already part of the "us" feeling. #populism

Tr. Neden? Çünkü dış grubun liderini reddetmek zaten “biz” duygusunun bir parçasıdır.

(Eng) A brightly colored, fauvist-style interior painting by Henri Matisse from 1914. A grey and black cat is seen staring intently at a glass bowl of red fish placed on a small table. The background shows green curtains and a window, with flattened forms and vivid contrasts. The scene is calm yet visually striking, with simplified shapes and bold colors typical of Matisse’s expressive style.

By pointing fingers at global elites, Trump embodied a core element of populist rhetoric — portraying himself as the defender of “the people” against the elites. This rhetoric played a key role in shaping his image as a true representative of the people.

This study analyzes over 50,000+ tweets from Western European right-wing populist leaders, revealing how their “us vs. them” rhetoric fuels harmful polarization. Security dominates in Spain, crime in Italy, and Islamism in France. Conclusion: Social media amplifies division.

Populism has emerged with different dynamics in different geographies since the last quarter of the 19th century. The characterization of a political actor or movement as “populist” without considering the socio-cultural, socio-political and democratic systems of countries needs empirical findings.
