Unconscionable how she re-invents the “people-choose-to-be-homeless” argument.

What are their actual options for housing when they “choose” to seek it? Please do share because I know some people who would gladly choose to have housing.

Governor Walz defunded our housing program because other agencies committed fraud. No oversight.

Various stages of grief, mostly anger. Shelters overflowing, cold weather. Calls for help every day — so much need — we do as we can.

Now — Retribution against whistleblowers? Was it deliberate?

I don’t understand how access to reading is easier today. Are there new libraries in rural America? Bookmobiles are still needed and very much missing.

“Affordable” — housing, food, transportation, childcare, medical care, arts, athletics, vacations, gifts, hobbies, insurance, taxes.
Saving for retirement and emergencies.
Living with joy and comfort. Having dignified work to fit ones skills and talents.

Housing instability can be solved.

We can match people with available housing.

We can take stock of what is needed.

Some need supports. Some need vouchers.

Some needs are known. Some can be better understood.

Every other species on earth makes shelter a priority — maybe humans could too.

Job first then housing? Or housing first?

Need custody for housing, need housing for custody

Affordable is only affordable if you make this much, but not too much

Brave enough to leave an abusing loved one, move across the state to an unknown small town. Confident in her ability to make friends from strangers. Section 8 bolsters us, gives us strength and courage.

Ranked choice voting solves our current dilemmas.
Imagine an even playing field for multiple candidates. Gerrymandering loses its sting.
Negative campaigning is punished by the voters.
More candidates, more voters participating.
Incumbents lose their entitlement, their grip on the seats.

Ranked choice voting levels the field — more democratic — it encourages more of our citizens to run for office, brings new voters to the polls, and gives all candidates a chance to win.

Section 8 is like having a supportive family who holds you up while you explore your artistic, athletic, entrepreneurial, career, or educational opportunities. It’s one of the few social supports that allows for personal growth and / or thoughtful parenting while you prepare for your best life.

Housing choice voucher vs project-based section 8:

HCV = independence, mobility; also higher fees, discrimination against voucher holders.

PB8 = low to no fees; long waiting lists

Section 8 = Housing. Income-based support. Growth and healing. Life affirming. Career building.

How about you?

I made this the other night while procrastinating, mainly because I thought all the posts about the blackout were boring. It feels like there is momentum bringing people together!
