1990–2015: Republicans AND Democrats are neoliberal (but in different ways).

2016-Present: Republican party is populist nationalist and Democrats are technocratic moralists

Hopefully this thread clears up confusion especially around "the party switch"

1930–1960: Republican party is now reactionary constitutionalist and Democrats are progressive.

1960–1980: Republicans become fusionist and the Democrats are still progressive but a little bit different than before.

Rough history of the two US parties a thread

1850–1910: Republican party is conservative, Democrats populist.

1910–1930: Republican party splits with TR losing to Taft. Split is conservatives and corporate liberals. Democrats are still populist.

🐝Bumblebees perform "buzz pollination"

They grab onto a flower & vibrate their flight muscles at a high-pitched middle C frequency, shaking the pollen loose

Without it, many of our favorite native plants wouldn't be able to reproduce!

The amount of edits I have seen where people are quoting conservative media to say they hate conservatives is kind of insane. LOTR and TCN are conservative and Christian..

In the past, clothing, shaped by purpose and the demands of daily labor, ensured that every garment was meaningful and quietly beautiful. Today, our modern, indoor, sedentary lifestyles leave clothing’s main purpose to comfort and style, which gives us the frequent feeling we have nothing to wear.

Waxed coats shielded farmers and hunters from wind and rain, chore coats withstood daily wear and tear, peacoats kept sailors warm on stormy seas, and trench coats emerged during World War I to protect soldiers in the trenches.

Duck boots kept hunters feet dry, clogs protected farmers in muddy fields, and moccasins provided quiet, flexible protection for Indigenous peoples and hunters.

A thread:

Clothing used to be rooted in purpose. Sweaters were knit to keep fishermen, farmers, and other outdoorsmen warm during long hours in cold, damp conditions. They were durable, repairable, and often handmade by loved ones.

That's not a driving force behind conservatism anymore than hating men is the driving force behind feminism...

I am greatly enjoying the book How To Be a Conservative by Roger Scruton, here's some of my favorite quotes so far:

In the US we don't need to save honeybees. They are an exotic species and classified as livestock. But grow plants that are native to your area and bloom at different times of the season for our wonderful bumble bees and other native polinators. Gotta love a bumbler!

A lot of the custom bee license plates also donate the extra or whole fee towards the bees! Same with Smokey the Bear and other environmental plates!

Yes the Republican party hasn't been conservative for multiple generations now. Currently they are right populist with some other ideologies sprinkled in such as reactionary and Christian Nationalist.

Theodore Roosevelt was conservative philosophically but progressive in policy (because progressivism is believing the government is a tool to better society). So you can think of him as a progressive conservative, reform conservative, or just a conservative.

Progressivism is viewing the government as a tool to better society and conservatism is practical stewardship so the two are not contradictory and Theodore Roosevelt is a perfect example of this. He was philosophically conservative but practically progressive.

I too am frustrated by “save the bees” stuff that is solely focused on honeybees. Here is a lovely native bumblebee I saw busily pollinating the apple trees in my parents orchard last weekend! It was so cute.

🌿Practice Lazy Gardening

🍂Leave the Leaves: Many native bees and butterfly larvae overwinter in leaf litter

🐝Save the Stems: many solitary bees nest inside hollow stems

Bare Dirt is Good: About 70% of California’s native bees nest underground

On August 6, 1912 T Roosevelt articulated what may be the clearest moral definition of conservatism: conservation as stewardship. A nation must conserve not only its people, but the land & resources that sustain them, not for short term gain, but to be cared for & passed down to future generations ♡
